THE ISSUES: PDA'S
Why the strong stance?
Friday 31 August 2001
The Wilkinson Administration cares a lot about the schools reputations. It has shown its Iron Fist in
these situations by restricting access to the shop as much as possible, and the frequent 'Operation:
Uniform Busts'. This is all, apparently, to put out a good reputation of the school into the community.
This is a subject touched on nearly every parade. I can understand most of these things that they
object to. Sure enough, due to our hypocritical population, people driving by will see Bundy High
students having a smoke and think how bad the school must be, on the basis that there are a few
students smoking. This person will then proceed to light up themselves.
The one I don't understand is the opposition of the Wilkinson Administration to 'Public Displays of
Affection'. Maybe for some reason old fogies don't like seeing students having physical contact.
Another hypocritical situation arises, however, when these same old fogies go home and watch
soapies, with much raunchier action then two students outside the school.
The school staff has a lot to say about not having 'relations' outside of the school. However they don't
seem to show objection to physical contact of another kind, fights. Never, not once, have the staff on
duty at parade told us not to have fights outside school while in uniform. I would have thought that two
students showing hate to each other and expressing this in the form of violence would be a lot more
derogatory to school reputation then two students expressing love through peace outside school. A
rather strange outlook indeed. Even 'cuddling' within school grounds at lunch is 'frowned upon' and
often 'not allowed'. I see no point in this. Really, who gets offended?
We'd like your opinions on this subject. We also encourage response from the Wilkinson
Administration on this strange policy. Any emails on the subject will be published and your opinion
will be heard.
